NDIS Behaviour Support in Oakleigh South

A fair number of the people I talk to haven’t dealt with the NDIS before and aren’t sure what they’re even eligible for, let alone what a Behaviour Support Practitioner actually does. That’s a completely normal place to start from. I’d rather spend the free call explaining plan types, funding categories and what’s realistic, than assume you already know the acronyms.

What Behaviour Support Looks Like in Oakleigh South

Once we’re underway, the actual behaviour support work looks like it does for anyone: an assessment to understand what’s going on, a plan that’s usable rather than theoretical, and ongoing contact rather than a one-off document. But I try not to skip the explaining-the-system part, because a lot of families I’ve spoken with have been quietly confused for months before reaching out, and that confusion is fixable in one conversation.

For a family in Oakleigh South, this might mean:

  • Assessment for behaviour linked to communication needs, sensory distress, trauma, anxiety, or unmet health needs
  • Practical home strategies for Oakleigh South families who feel they’re constantly walking on eggshells
  • Positive Behaviour Support approaches focused on quality of life, skill-building, and safety
  • Collaborative planning with support coordinators, your allocated Local Area Coordinator, therapists, educators, and informal supports
  • Plain-language recommendations that are easier for busy families and teams to follow

If you’re not sure whether you even qualify yet, that’s still worth a call. I can usually tell you fairly quickly.

Getting Started

Here’s what the process actually looks like, since it’s rarely explained clearly upfront. You start with a free 20-minute call, no referral required, just a chance to talk through what’s going on. From there, if we’re a good fit, we sign a service agreement and get the initial assessment booked, at home, at school with consent, or over telehealth.

Expect four to six weeks for a full Behaviour Support Plan once that’s underway. If the situation’s urgent, particularly if restrictive practices are already being used, I’ll aim for an Interim BSP within two weeks instead. I try to keep the wait as short as possible for Oakleigh South families, same as anywhere else I work.
